So will it work or am I just kidding myself?

February 26th, 2010

I'm trying to lose a little weight, but I'm having trouble with temptation. I read somewhere on the internet that some people keep 'photo diaries' where they stick pictures of models, or celebrities in a book as a type of 'inspiration'. Has anyone tried this? Do you think it would work?

That's not a bad idea but I've got a better one:

Get a digital camera and take a picture of yourSELF, naked in front of a mirror. (Ok, you can wear underwear.) This is your starting point. This is the point of reference to show your future self where you began.

Losing weight is a gradual process and sometimes you don’t notice the small changes until, all of a sudden, you fit into those favorite jeans of yours. But it’s not like the weight just came off overnight, it was a gradual thing and you may not have noticed. So use that camera as a way to keep track of yourself.

A picture every few days or once a week wouldn’t be a bad idea.

When I'm going through a cutting phase (losing weight), I take a picture of myself everyday and say,"This isn't where I want to be." And then I keep going. The next morning I look at the picture from the day before and then take another one and say,"Nope, getting better but I'm not there yet." And I keep doing this until I DO get there.

Use yourSELF as motivation. Be your own light. Be awesome.

I think it would work. Most times when i do something, i think of the reward and that keeps me going, most of the time.

It wouldn’t hurt to try. If it doesn’t work then you can always try something else. Everybody has their own ways to try to lose weight. You’ll find yours and good luck! =]

It may work, but I really don’t think it’s a healthy idea to use too-thin models as inspiration to lose weight. Instead, you should post a photo of someone with a more muscular build, perhaps an action shot from those who model for Nike or Adidas? I certainly wouldn’t stick a vogue model up on an inspiration board. Because honestly, sometimes you just have to be born a certain way to be a size 0 and still be healthy. Better yet, are you good at photoshop? How bout photoshopping a picture of yourself to an ideal size. The effect will be WAY more potent if you’re looking at a photo of future you, rather than just some random skinny person. Or you could try buying a pair of goal-pants. Buy a pair of pants in your "goal size" from a brand that fits you well. Every time you look at them, I’m sure you’ll feel that inspiration boost.

This may be helpful or harmful…Yes, I think that pictures of celebrities and or models could provide inspiration. However, those people have access to personal chefs, trainers, hair and makeup artist, and most importantly airbrush ups in magazines. Something I think may be more beneficial is buying an outfit that is a little too small for you so you have something to work towards. Maybe if you have an older photo of yourself when you were a little thinner to hang up on the fridge. Also, try keeping a log of the things you eat. You would be surprised how much you cut back when you have to read that you ate too much over the weekend. Hope this helped a little. Good Luck!

I think its unhealthy. Just exercise and eat lots of vegetables and fruits and you will be lean in no time. I would also take a look at fitness for dummies if I were you as it helped me immensely :D
