    I really don’t think it’s a great idea to play this from a score man. Just listen, trancribe the essence and improvise.. That’s the whole concept of jazz anyway.. Ciao

    Man..a few jaws …
    Man..a few jaws dropped when this record came out! These guys are just whaling on this tune!
    For me, Anthony Jackson is about ten lightyears ahead of everybody else-and that’s just with grooving. Had the pleasure of meeting him in person when he visited the jazzdepartment of the conservatory where I was studying bass. Back in the day.

    This tune was on a Paquito D’Rivera LP/CD that featured Steve Gadd. His serious playing and solo on that cut was the framework for future versions.
    ‘Just Kidding’ just might be ’sarcasm’ for Gadd’s work !

    I heard the reason …
    I heard the reason this amazing tune is called “Just Kidding” is because when either Chris Hunter or Lew Soloff first looked at the sheet music and saw the super fast, hard to play notes at the end of the last measure of the form he said something like “You gotta be be kidding!!!” I don’t know whether this is true or not, but somehow it makes sense to me… anyone else heard that one?

    I am a tad more …
    I am a tad more into bass. It’s always to listen to Anthony Jackson playing the 6-string built with Carl Thompson. His newer Foderas are better, but I still love that liquid Thompson sound.

    I wish people …
    I wish people wouldnt post slideshows like this, The song is great however but I would like to watch it too. One of my favourites is Caribe.
    I love the video of him playing with the legendary Dave Weckl and Anthony Jackson.
    Joel Rosenblatt is great too!
